GROW Aitutaki is proud to be part of citizen science, where our young people and community help collect information and care for our environment.
What we do:
Turtle Monitoring – “Snap and Track” with Te Ipukarea Society, our students take photos of turtles to help identify and track their movements.
Seabird Monitoring - Students help obsrrve seabird nesting and behaviour, gathering data to protect important island bird populations.
Coral Gardening - Through our Tanu Kaoa project, youth learn how to grow, plant, and care for coral in Aitutaki’s lagoon.
Youth Nature Activities - Hands on learning includes whale migration mapping, lagoon and coastal planting, turtle studies, and snorkel surveys.
Why it matters:
These projects let young people and community members become scientists too — observing, recording, and protecting our ocean
