FOCUS: Plastic Patrol – Land to Lagoon youth waste monitoring and ocean stewardship
SUMMARY: A land to lagoon initiative engaging youth in tracking, collecting, and auditing plastic waste from beaches to the lagoon. Through regular Plastic Patrol walks, students collect, sort, count, bag, and weigh debris to understand where waste is coming from and how it impacts the marine environment. This hands on project builds environmental awareness, strengthens data collection skills, and empowers young people to take action to protect Aitutaki’s beaches, lagoon, and coral reefs. Funded by NZHC grant.
